10@10

10@10 was a huge success throughout all 25 classes in the school. Walking around the corridors at 10am, each classroom was a hive of activity and vibrations of the movement could be heard through the walls. Some of the older classes set challenges on the day such as '4 Laps for 4th Class' keeping the movement going.

Many classes have been using the 10@10 activities on a regular basis as a great movement break during the day.

Zumba with Women's Fitness Gym

b2ap3_thumbnail_IMG_6739_20170215-100220_1.JPG

Last week, Gerri, from Women's Fitness Gym Raheen, came to visit our school and teach the students some amazing Zumba moves. The Halla Mór was buzzing Thursday evening with lots of movement and music!

After school on Thursday evening, Woman's Fitness Gym kindly offered all staff a free class in the gym. Over ten members of staff attended 'Legs, Bums and Tums' and it is fair to say we were all a little stiff the next day!

Thanks so much to all the staff at Women's Fitness Gym for getting involved with our Active School Flag Project and we look forward to working with them again soon.

Here are some pictures of our wonderful Rudolph Races. The races took place on the running track (in between the showers!) during the last week of school. If Santa is ever stuck for some helpers with his sleigh, I'm sure some of these boys and girls would give Rudolph a run for his money!!!!

Ms. Farrell's class really enjoyed all the exercises in the Physical Action Advent Calendar. When it was all over, the class reflected on some of their favourite activities. There were such a mix of both indoor and outdoor activities meaning the class kept active no matter how wet the weather got over the last few days of school.

Physical Action Advent Calendar

IMG_6128.PNG

The students in 1st class are substituting the usual Advent calendar with a fun-filled action Advent calendar. Each morning, the class have a new activity to complete, for example:

'All of the class do ten star jumps and shout ‘Merry Christmas’ each time'

'All the class sit in a tuck position. Keep breathing and gently rock backwards and forwards whilst humming ‘Jingle Bells’. '

This month in St. Nessan's is 'Dancing December' !! During the day, Christmas music is played over the intercom into all of the classrooms. All classes stop what they are doing, stand up, push in their chairs and rock around the room to different Christmas classics! All classes from Junior Infants to 6th class are really enjoying it so far. Here are some of our Junior Infants getting into the swing of things.

This week saw the beginning of the cold and frosty mornings, but that didn't stop our students from getting active first thing before heading into the classroom. Here are some pictures of the boys and girls skipping and running some laps of the pitch to wake themselves up during the week.

Active Schools Blog

AS Flag

St. Nessan's National School is in the process of working towards an Active School Flag.

Our school is proud to have a dedicated and enthusiastic staff who deliver a super Physical Education programme to our pupils every year. Six different P.E. Strands are covered in St. Nessan's every year – Athletics, Dance, Gymnastics, Games, Aquatics and Outdoor and Adventures. Children engage in one hour of P.E. every week.

We have an Active School Committee helping us to achieve our goal. The committee has plans to organise and promote activities such as Active School Week, Lunch Time Leaders and Circuit Classes.
