A message from the Principal

St. Nessan's has a long and proud history in educating the children of the Mungret and Raheen areas. While the school has only been on its present site since the mid 1960s, there is a long tradition of education in the local area stretching back to medieval times.

In the past thirty years, the school has seen phenomenal growth with 720 pupils attending daily. Despite this growth, we have kept our friendly and welcoming atmosphere and hope that the school is a place where parents, pupils and other members of the community feel comfortable at all times. While we are a Catholic school, we welcome children of all faiths and of no faith. We believe that our school is an integral part of the local community and we pride ourselves on the links that exist between the school and religious, sporting, cultural and neighbourhood groups.

The school has three classes in each strand and has a teaching staff of 42 consisting of Class Teachers, Learning Support Teachers, Resource Teachers, an E.A.L. Teacher and an Administrative Principal and Deputy Principal. This teaching staff is complemented by a team of Special Needs Assistants and our Ancillary Staff. This year  for the first time there are four Junior Infant  Classes

The school has a very active Parents' Association elected annually at the AGM in October. The Association holds monthly meetings and is involved in fund raising and the organisation of talks on matters of interest to parents. The Board of Management of the school meets regularly to ensure the smooth running of the school. The Chairperson is  Mr John Murphy and the other members consist of the Principal, an elected teachers' nominee, two elected parents' nominees, a patron's nominee and two community representatives.

The school has as its ethos and vision to foster the spiritual, moral, intellectual, social and cultural development of the pupils in a safe and happy atmosphere. Our motto 'Mol an Óige agus Tiocfaidh Sí' guides us as we continue on the historic tradition of education in the Mungret area.
